Is digital simulation good enough to replace physical tests?

During a recent Webcast I moderated ("Materialistic Engineering," broadcast on June 3), one listener posed the following question:

Is digital simulation good enough to replace physical tests?

What are your thoughts on that?

I'm planning to do a follow-up podcast on this.

I have no shortage of software developers, who would say the answer is "Yes."

But I'd also like to hear from advocates of physical tests.

Best,

From an interaction design point of view, physical tests can outweigh the digital simulation if we have the end-user in mind during the product development. But sometimes it's not being considered so it seems having a gas pump topper without the fuel inside the pump.
